Motherhood and Postpartum

Maternal Mental Health:

I am passionate about working with moms, as being a mom is the most difficult and rewarding job there is. I treat moms who often struggle with:

  • Guilt- feeling like you did something wrong or bad
  • Shame- feeling like you are inadequate, unworthy, or a failure
  • Overwhelm
  • Postpartum Depression, Anxiety, OCD, or rage
  • Adjustment to motherhood
  • Change in identity since motherhood
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feeling isolated

The transition to motherhood is not easy, as it can be drastically different from the life you led before your child(ren). I enjoy helping women adjust to their new role as mothers, while also fostering their identity outside of motherhood. Many new moms I see struggle with postpartum depression and/or anxiety, postpartum OCD, or rage. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, please reach out. The adjustment is already hard enough, you do not have to do it without additional support.

Journey to Motherhood:

I also work alongside women on their road to motherhood. Many of the topics discussed with these women may include:

  • Infertility
  • Pregnancy or Newborn Loss
  • Pregnancy (either planned or unexpected)
  • Preparing for motherhood
  • Education around the postpartum period

Many of my clients have experienced unexpected pregnancies, miscarriages, newborn loss, and infertility struggles. I have several clients who have PCOS and discuss their difficulties or frustrations with trying to get pregnant and having that diagnosis.

How can therapy help?

I will create a safe space for you to share your authentic feelings and concerns, agree upon realistic goals, and work with you at a pace you are comfortable with to meet those goals. Examples of some goals are: decrease feelings of guilt or shame; decrease self-doubt; have time for self and not feel guilty about it; be able to fall asleep more easily; improve communication with significant other; find joy in parenting; be more present with family.

I will provide support through empathy, validation, and reflection and will teach you a variety of techniques to use outside of the session to help you meet your goals. Many of the techniques I teach are from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed approaches (Narrative, Mindfulness, and Sensorimotor). Therapy will be conducted online or virtually at an agreed-upon cadence that will help you meet your goals (ie. weekly, biweekly, once a month). I may discuss a referral for medication management in addition to therapy with you depending upon the severity of your symptoms and how they are affecting your quality of life and ability to function.

I am not a judgmental person or therapist and do not put my values or beliefs onto my clients. Please come as you are and we will work together to help you evolve into the mother and person you want to be.
