Interpersonal Relationships and Communication

Are you a people pleaser?

Do you feel like people in your personal or professional life take advantage of you?

Is it hard setting boundaries with family members and/or friends?

Do you have a hard time saying “no?”

How can therapy help?

We will discuss different communication styles and learn how to practice assertive communication, the most effective and respectful type of communication style. Especially for women, it can be difficult to assert ourselves as we might be viewed as “bitchy.” This is tough and often not the case. We will discuss how to respect our needs and wants while respecting others’ wishes and negotiate if possible. We will utilize real life examples that are impacting you so you feel ready and equipped to have these difficult, but healthy, conversations.

We will also discuss boundary setting and managing expectations personally or professionally. We will explore and identify how to make these changes in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you.

Many of the techniques used for enhancing interpersonal relationships and communication are derived from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I will provide you with additional handouts and worksheets you can utilize to expand on the skills you learn during session. Therapy will be conducted online or virtually at an agreed-upon cadence that will help you meet your goals (ie. weekly, biweekly, once a month).
